Media Notes

New CBS NFL analyst Tony Romo on Monday said he initially will "probably stink for a while" in the broadcast booth, as he understands he is "coming in without any experience." Romo: "It’s exciting, it’s a little nerve-wracking. ... You’re coming into the unknown and something I have to get better at and I like a challenge." Romo said as the season goes on he will "continue to improve" and "hopefully get better" (FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 5/9).

ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE: In Boston, Chad Finn writes Kevin Garnett's "Area 21" segments are "fast becoming the best thing about TNT’s NBA coverage, and considering the network still features the best studio program in sports, that’s high praise." Garnett’s segments are "candid and cool," as the "vibe of his conversational style inevitably leads to casual camaraderie with his guests" (BOSTON GLOBE, 5/10).

AZTEC AIRWAVES: In San Diego, Kirk Kenney reported San Diego State Univ. is "moving its flagship radio station" from XEPRS-AM to XTRA-AM. In recent weeks, Fox Sports College Properties, the multimedia rights holder for SDSU athletics, had been "negotiating a new contract for the school’s broadcast rights." SDSU’s four-year contract with BCA Radio "expires at the end of the current school year." The new deal with iHeart Radio is "expected to be for a similar length" (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 5/9).
