NFL Franchise Notes: Might The Redskins Not Hire A New GM After All?

CBSSPORTS.com's Will Brinson noted Redskins President Bruce Allen "sounds like he doesn't think" the team needs to hire a new GM. Appearing on ESPN Radio 980 DC on Friday, Allen said, "There have been no decisions made. The process, we are going to take our time. We want to get it right." Brinson wrote part of this logic "could be that the Redskins did well" at the NFL Draft "without having a GM in place." Redskins Senior Personnel Exec Doug Williams is "helping in a big way inside the front office" (CBSSPORTS.com, 5/8).

TIME IN THE POCKET
: In Buffalo, Jay Skurski writes the Bills are one of only two NFL teams without a GM after firing Doug Whaley last month, but with the Redskins unlikely to fill their open GM position anytime soon, the Bills have "no competition for whoever it is they want to hire." While a new GM will have to hire a new scouting staff, Bills co-Owners Terry and Kim Pegula "should take their time in trying to find the absolute perfect candidate for the job" (BUFFALO NEWS, 5/9).

STRAIGHT TO THE FANS
: ESPN.com's Alden Gonzalez noted the Rams yesterday launched a vote that "allows fans to select which two games the team wears the throwback, yellow-and-blue uniforms that quickly became a local favorite." The first vote for one of four games concludes today at 6:00pm PT. The second vote will take place from 9:00am tomorrow through 6:00pm on Thursday, where fans will "vote on another set of four games" (ESPN.com, 5/8).
