Club Deportivo Leganés Launches Own Virtual Reality Channel With The Dream VR

Club Deportivo Leganés of the Spanish first division has announced the launch of its own virtual reality channel. The deal, in partnership with The Dream VR, is in place for the rest of the 2016-17 season and enables fans to see behind-the-scenes footage before games in a full 360-degree view.

Fans can view this exclusive content, such as locker room footage, on a channel within The Dream VR application, which is available on both iOS and Android devices under the “Sport” tab. The deal has already produced a number of pieces of content available to fans to view including a recent game against league leaders Real Madrid. It also builds upon an initial piece of content, launched in November 2016, in what The Dream VR called a “content capsule,” to coincide with CD Leganes’ away game at Real Madrid’s Bernabeu stadium.

Currently CD Leganés is hovering just outside the relegation zone in the La Liga soccer division with three league games remaining.

“Dream VR is the perfect platform for La Liga Clubs, for football fans to enjoy and be closer to their clubs and live different experiences in VR & 360,” The Dream VR CEO Albert Palay said in a statement. “We are excited to be partnering with one of the most exciting clubs in La Liga, competing with their big neighbors in Madrid (Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid) in one of the best football leagues in the world.”

Victoria Pavón, President of CD Leganés added: “We are excited to become the first club in the Spanish Football League with a Virtual Reality Channel, and we really believe that The Dream VR will create exciting content for our fans.”

In a separate interview, translated from Spanish, Pablo Garcia Suqué, executive director of The Dream VR confirmed that another La Liga club, RCD Espanyol are also piloting the technology currently, along with “several individual athletes.”
