Audience Analysis: PGA Tour Struggling With Final Rounds On CBS, NBC This Season

PGA Tour telecasts on broadcast TV have had a rough start to '17. There has not been a final round year-over-year viewership increase for men's golf events, including The Masters, since Jon Rahm's win at the Farmers Insurance Open in late January (3.08 million viewers vs. 2.28 million viewers). Last Sunday's Valero Texas Open marked the 12th tournament in a row to see an audience decline for the final round (2.0 million viewers vs. 2.22 million viewers). The declines continue to come despite three tourney wins for Dustin Johnson this season (Genesis Open, WGC-Mexico Championships, WGC-Dell Match Play). Jordan Spieth also took home a win at Pebble Beach. The Masters also was no help this year, as Sergio Garcia's sudden death playoff win was down 11% from last year.

ALABAMA SHAKES: ESPN on Saturday drew 547,000 viewers for the Alabama spring game, down 27% from the football program's A-Day last year (751,000 viewers).

The chart below lists final audience figures for select recent sports telecasts.
