Over-the-top digital platform 120 Sports along with Sinclair Broadcast Group and Silver Chalice are combining as equity partners around a multi-platform sports network, it was recently announced. The new initiative will be a combination of linear broadcast and digital.

Additionally, the new network will leverage Sinclair’s American Sports Network’s (ASN) distribution, Silver Chalice’s Campus Insiders’ live collegiate games and the 120 Sports studio as it incorporates the professional and college sports rights held by 120 Sports and Silver Chalice into the schedule. Post-game highlights, longer-form content, full game archives and other news will added to the programming lineup.

“With this incomparable set of strategic partners, we are evolving ASN into a vastly improved network with access to exclusive content and a combined linear and premium OTT offering that is the model for the future of television,” Chris Ripley, President and Chief Executive Officer of Sinclair said in a statement.

The broadcast element of the new network will reach millions of homes via Sinclair-owned multicast channels, whether over-the-air or by multichannel video programming distributors. More information on scheduled programming, distribution partners, sponsors, branding and studio details will be made available in the coming weeks.

With the new network, it will be interesting to follow how it complements the existing 120 Sports, which already includes regular weekly programming and a nightly sports recap show exclusively on Twitter that has been airing since last fall.
