Web.com Tour's Dominican Republic Event Moving To PGA Tour In '18 Opposite Match Play

The PGA Tour is elevating the current Web.com Tour Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship held in the Dominican Republic to the PGA Tour schedule beginning next year. The event will debut March 19-25 -- the same week as the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play -- and have a purse of at least $3M. The change comes after the Tour signed a four-year deal with Grupo Puntacana, which owns and operates Puntacana Resort & Club, to serve as the host organization. The Corales course will remain the tournament course for the PGA Tour event. The Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship will be held for the second time on the Web.com Tour this year from May 1-7 (John Lombardo, Staff Writer). Golfer Rich Werenski, who played in the event last year, said, "The guys will have a great time down there. ... We loved it. A great resort, great area." Golfer Cody Gribble said, “It's an awesome track, and I think not only is it awesome just being in that location and where you're going to be for the week, kind of a remote destination and I think everyone is going to love it.” Golfer Ryan Blaum: “That's a big step for an event and hopefully the exposure down there does some good for the community” (“Morning Drive,” Golf Channel, 4/18).
