Trusted Athlete App To Scan Medication, Provide Alerts For Harmful, Banned Substances

The International Centre for Sport Security announced Thursday it was developing a new mobile app that looks to help athletes scan, record and be alerted about whether or not medicines they might use are legal to use in sports.

The Trusted Athlete App is scheduled to be launched later this year and will provide athletes, coaches, doctors, and team staff members with this tool to scan medication and immediately be informed with information about it, including dosage limitations and potentially harmful or banned substances within the item.

An independent and non-profit organization, the ICSS looks to encourage fairer and more ethical competition by working with international authorities with this app, which support nutritional supplements in the future.

“The need to protect and safeguard ethics and values in sport has never been greater,” ICSS Group CEO Michael Hershman said in a statement. “As we have seen recently, various high-profile cases of doping and substance abuse have affected many athletes and people who play sport– including amateurs and professionals.

“Through the development of innovative mobile technology, the Trusted Athlete App aims to reduce the risk of doping and substance abuse to athletes at all levels and to ensure they – as well as coaches, parents, sponsors and other third parties – are appropriately informed about harmful medications and substances to their health, as well as the latest rules and regulations, to ensure better compliance and fair and ethical competition in sport.”
