Cardinals-Pirates Game Could Move To Little League World Series Venue In Williamsport

The Cardinals and Pirates are in the "process of relocating" their Aug. 20 game from PNC Park to a facility in Williamsport, Pa. as "part of the annual Little League World Series," according to Derrick Goold of the ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH. It would be featured on ESPN as part of "Sunday Night Baseball." Sources said that "such an opportunity was in the works, but that the mechanics of relocating two major-league teams to the LLWS facilities was being worked out." The LLWS, which opens this year on Aug. 18, is "celebrating its 70th anniversary" (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 3/7). In Pittsburgh, Bill Brink reported it is "unclear where the teams would play." BB&T Ballpark, the home of the Single-A New York-Penn League Williamsport Crosscutters, "is a possibility" (POST-GAZETTE.com, 3/6). Also in Pittsburgh, Rob Biertempfel noted last year, MLB "built a 12,500-seat stadium on the Fort Bragg military base for a July 4 game" between the Marlins and Braves. Construction "took four months" (TRIBLIVE.com, 3/6).
