DC United Supports Local Effort With "Taxation Without Representation" On Secondary Jerseys

DC United "continued its support" of local voting rights this week with the "unveiling of its new secondary kit, a jersey that includes an image of the District’s striking 'Taxation Without Representation' license plate," according to Dan Steinberg of the WASHINGTON POST. This is "believed to be the first use of a license plate image on a major pro team’s uniform." It is just the "latest (mildly) political statement" from the only major DC franchise that has "shown interest in the District’s voting-rights cause." The team put the “Taxation Without Representation” slogan "inside its jersey collars last season, after teaming with the DC Vote advocacy organization" in '15 (WASHINGTON POST, 2/15). DC United's secondary kit design, which "displays all three of the team's colors prominently, features red sleeves and a grey chest design resembling eagle wings that fades into a white torso" (ESPNFC.us, 2/13).
