Google, LG Partner On New Android Wear 2.0 Smartwatches With Fitness Tracking

LG and Google partnered to unveil the first smartwatches to not only come preloaded with the Android Wear 2.0 operating system, but with Google Fit’s ability to track steps, time, distance and calories.

LG Watch Sport and LG Watch Style are being rolled out in the U.S. followed by Europe and Asia later this month at the Google Store and select retailers.

LG Watch Sport is especially geared toward runners and other athletes. It features a built-in GPS and a photoplethsmogram (PPG) sensor to track the wearer’s heart rate during rest and exercise.

“Android Wear 2.0 focuses on making smartwatch experiences better and faster – including watch faces that bring glanceable data, fast and fluid messaging, and a new fitness experience that helps you track workouts and stay motivated with music,” David Singleton, Google’s vice president of Android Engineering, said in a statement. “We have enjoyed working closely with LG Electronics to craft a deeply integrated hardware and software experience taking full advantage of the new features of Android Wear 2.0 with these new flagship watches.”
