To The Victors Go The Spoils: Patriots Begin Making Media Rounds After Super Bowl Win

The Patriots began their post-Super Bowl media tour last night, as coach BILL BELICHICK and WR JULIAN EDELMAN appeared on NBC's "The Tonight Show" and WR DANNY AMENDOLA showed up on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live." Belichick called the reception he and Edelman got from the studio crowd the "loudest cheer I’ve ever heard from New York for us.” Host Jimmy Fallon asked Belichick, “Do you mind if I call you coach?” Belichick: “Oh yeah, because I’ve been called a lot worse than that.” Fallon: “You have the best game face out of any coach in the history of the game. ... You intimidate me when I watch you. Right now, I'm a little scared. You get out there and you look like you're grumpy and look like you're just mad, and you give that death stare.” Belichick said he was just "really focused on the field.” Edelman said of his amazing late fourth quarter catch, “After it all happened, I was kind of disappointed in my route, I'm not going to lie. I should have stuck in a little harder" (“The Tonight Show,” NBC, 2/6). Meanwhile, Amendola said he was “up late with SNOOP DOGG” after the game. Host Jimmy Kimmel asked, “Do they drug test in the offseason?” Kimmel later asked whether NFL Commissioner ROGER GOODELL came "to the party?” Amendola: “I think we invited him.” Kimmel: “Really? That would have been great.” Amendola: “I don’t know that he came, though. I was with Snoop” (“Jimmy Kimmel Live,” ABC, 2/6).

HAVING SOME LAUGHS: The Super Bowl was a major focus of the late-night shows' monologues, with CBS' Stephen Colbert saying, "Atlanta hasn't been burned this badly since 1864." Colbert: "The Falcons were running away with it. ... It was 28-3. Then in the third quarter, FBI Director JAMES COMEY announced he was opening an investigation into MATT RYAN's emails. He claims it had no effect." He added, "It all ended with TOM BRADY taking home his fifth ring. It was another inspiring reminder that in America, rich white guys married to models can still make it" ("The Late Show," CBS, 2/6). ABC's Kimmel: "Who doesn't like to see the overdogs win? Just like the election -- a rich white guy married to a model from another country who seemingly had no chance of winning actually did win. ... I am now 100% convinced that Tom Brady is one of those ‘Westworld’ robots" ("Jimmy Kimmel Live," ABC, 2/6). Comedy Central's Trevor Noah: "It was an amazing victory. It was like David and Goliath, if Goliath got back up and tore off David's head. It's nice to see things work out finally for Tom Brady. ... The only downside for Tom Brady was that after the game, Roger Goodell gave him a four-game suspension for overinflating Atlanta's hopes” ("The Daily Show," Comedy Central, 2/6). NBC's Fallon: "You can tell that they've won a lot because when the commissioner presented the trophy, they just said, 'Just throw it in the car'" ("The Tonight Show," NBC, 2/6).
