Jerry West's Warriors Contract Expiring In July, With No Discussions Yet On An Extension

Basketball HOFer and Warriors Exec BOD member Jerry West's contract with the team is "scheduled to expire this July, and as of yet there have been no serious discussions" with co-Owner Joe Lacob about an extension, according to Tim Kawakami of the SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS. Lacob specifically said that he "planned to have a conversation with West soon -- and West indicated that he knew" that Lacob and co-Owner Peter Guber had been "very busy" getting the S.F. Chase Center to the groundbreaking stage. Prior to West going to the hospital following a fall two weeks ago, he had been "telling associates that he wasn’t sure what he’d do after this season, but he knew he still wanted to remain active with a team." Sources said that West "might be intrigued by an offer from the Lakers, but he also feels very connected to the Warriors’ quest for championships." West has been a "vital part of the Warriors’ turn-around since joining the franchise" in May '11 as a "key front-office voice." West "received a two-year extension" from the Warriors in September '14 that was "twinned with a longer extension" for President of Basketball Operations & GM Bob Myers. Myers "received another new deal last summer… and West didn’t." On Friday, Lacob "suggested that there was nothing to read into the separation of the West and Myers contract situations" (SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, 2/7).
