MLB Franchise Notes: Rangers To Air Local Super Bowl Commercial On Ticket Packages

In Ft. Worth, Stefan Stevenson reports the Rangers for the second straight year will air a local Super Bowl ad, this time introducing a "limited-time offer that includes Opening Day and a 12-game ticket package for the price of a 10-game package." The deal will be "available beginning once the commercial airs on Sunday evening" until 11:59pm CT on Monday. The spot, which "features a version of 'Take Me Out to the Ball Game,'" was created by TM Advertising, Dallas, and Charlie Uniform Tango, Dallas (FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 2/3).

SAY WHAT? In Chicago, Phil Thompson noted the White Sox on Thursday "went for broke by playing off a viral Internet meme, but the joke apparently didn't go over well with many of their social media followers." The team tweeted, "Cash me ousside how bow dah," along with a picture of "empty stands at Camelback Ranch, the team's spring training stadium in Phoenix." The team said that it was "just having fun and being relevant by capitalizing on a popular trend." The tweet "plays off the words used by a street-tough 13-year-old girl who appeared on 'Dr. Phil' in September" (CHICAGOTRIBUNE.com, 2/2).

NEVER FORGET: In Ft. Lauderdale, Tim Healey notes remembering late Marlins P Jose Fernandez will "be a theme" of the club's '17 season. The Marlins will wear a "No. 16" uniform patch, similar to what they "wore the final week of last season." The black-and-white patch will be on "every jersey for every game, home and away, but on the chest instead of the sleeve" (South Florida SUN-SENTINEL, 2/3).
