Ravens Adding Escalators, Bigger Video Boards As Part Of M&T Bank Stadium Renovation

The Ravens will invest $120M in M&T Bank Stadium as "part of a three-year project that will add elevators and escalators, enlarge the end zone video boards and improve the sound system and kitchen facilities," according to Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore SUN. The Maryland Stadium Authority also has "pledged to spend" an additional $24M for the improvements of the 19-year-old stadium. Ravens President Dick Cass said, "We need to keep making improvements. We won’t stop here. You can’t ever stop. You have to keep putting money into your stadium.” Zrebiec notes the Ravens since '13 have invested $45M to "improve Wi-Fi capabilities and upgrade concourses and concessions stands." However, their latest plans "represent their biggest renovation project to date, and will eventually answer some long-standing fan complaints, including the lack of escalators." Phase 1 has "already begun and is scheduled to be completed" before the start of the '17 season. It features the "installation of two 4K ultra-high definition video displays, which will be double the width of the team’s current boards, behind each end zone below the upper level." The boards measure "approximately 200-feet wide and 36-feet high." The Ravens also will "install LED ribbon displays around the seating bowl’s suite level." As part of Phases 2 and 3, the Ravens will "have escalators and elevators installed in the southeast corner of the stadium" in time for the '18 season, and the "same will be added in the northwest corner" in time for '19. The final two phases "will include the addition of high-definition video boards -- measuring approximately 33-feet wide and 44-feet high -- in each of the four corners of the stadium" (Baltimore SUN, 2/1).
