Russell Wilson, Odell Beckham Jr. Rank As "Most Valued Athletes On Social Media"

120 Sports and social media measurement firm MVPindex last night revealed the "Most Valued Athletes On Social Media Of 2016." Seahawks QB Russell Wilson claimed the top spot, followed by Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. and Texans DE J.J. Watt. MVPindex ranked the athletes based on their social activity throughout '16. The ranking combines scores for reach (fans, followers, impressions), engagement (likes, comments, shares, retweets, favorites) and conversation (positive/negative mentions) (120 Sports/MVPindex). 120 Sports’ Tyler Jacobs said of Wilson's standing at No. 1, "Maybe it’s the marriage to Ciara, crossover appeal. He is buttoned-up. No issues as far as trouble with the law off the field. He’s about as white bread as you can get." 120 Sports’ Dylan McGorty noted Wilson's social media accounts are "littered with pictures with kids, going to the hospital to visit sick people, putting his stamp on the community.” McGorty: “You take that and you mix it with the raw sex appeal and pop stardom of his now wife Ciara and you put it together, it’s got a little bit of everything.” McGorty: “He’s just Mr. Consistent, steady with the way he plays.” Meanwhile, Jacobs said it will be "interesting to see" if UFC fighter Conor McGregor has "peaked" ("The Rally," 120SPORTS.com, 1/11).
