Penn State AD Maintains Position Against General Alcohol Sales At Beaver Stadium

Penn State AD Sandy Barbour yesterday stated general alcohol sales at Beaver Stadium are still "not under consideration" despite revenue from beer sales at Ohio State exceeding $1.1M in its first year, according to Lori Falce of the CENTRE DAILY TIMES. PSU Assistant AD/Strategic Communications Jeff Nelson said, "Nothing has changed related to this subject. There aren’t any plans to sell throughout the entire stadium." Falce notes while some "limited possibilities have been proposed, like alcohol options in club seating or private suites, Barbour has maintained that she is not in favor of general alcohol availability." PSU has been "experimenting with alcohol availability at its sports and entertainment venues for non-Nittany Lion events." The school tested alcohol sales during an NHL preseason Sabres-Wild game at the school's Pegula Ice Arena in October, and PSU Deputy AD & COO Phil Esten said there were "zero alcohol-related incidents" (CENTRE DAILY TIMES, 12/7).

TAKING THE LIONS' SHARE: In Pennsylvania, Greg Pickel noted PSU has "cancelled its alumni association and public ticket sales for the Rose Bowl after selling out its 20,000-plus allotment through the Nittany Lion Club." The secondary market is "hopping with tickets; StubHub's lowest price is currently $231 as of Monday night, while VividSeats lists the lowest entry point at $226." PSU's matchup against USC on Jan. 2 will mark the school's first appearance in the Rose Bowl since '09 (PENNLIVE.com, 12/5).
