Franchise Notes

FAN RAG SPORTS' Jon Heyman cited sources as saying that the Marlins are "planning to build a permanent memorial" to late P Jose Fernandez outside Marlins Park. It "isn’t certain yet whether the memorial will have as its centerpiece a statue, a mound or something else" to memorialize Fernandez. Heyman noted it has been a "difficult time for many people around the Marlins," including Owner Jeffrey Loria (FANRAGSPORTS.com, 11/11).

BUSINESS TIME: Devils co-Owner Josh Harris last week said that his strategy for running the team is "in line with the approach he uses to operate Apollo Global Management, the private equity firm he co-founded that owns many notable companies." Harris said of the company, "We put great leaders in place." Harris said that those leaders are "held accountable for the jobs they do." Harris said GM Ray Shero day-to-day is "in charge of the hockey team" despite the two collaborating on strategies, trades, hires, and other high-level decisions (Newark STAR-LEDGER, 11/14).

HEADING WEST: In West Palm Beach, Jason Lieser noted the Dolphins "will stay" in Carlsbad, Calif., after playing the Chargers yesterday in San Diego and ahead of their game this week against the Rams in L.A. The Dolphins will "attempt to duplicate their regular workweek and facility at a plush resort, a well-equipped local prep school and the weight room at a local training center." In total it will be a 12-day trip, which is a "new experience for virtually everyone on the roster." Dolphins Senior Dir of Team Operations Scott Bullis "looked into options" in the L.A. area as well, but the team "decided staying in Carlsbad for both games would be less disruptive to its schedule" (PALM BEACH POST, 11/12).

FEELING A DRAFT: In Minneapolis, Sid Hartman noted the Vikings have "applied to play host" to either the '22 or '23 NFL Draft, with a "good chance they will have it at their planned Eagan facility" (Minneapolis STAR-TRIBUNE, 11/13).
