Blues Unveil Winter Classic Jerseys, Which Pay Homage To Franchise's Early Years

The Blackhawks and Blues yesterday both unveiled their jerseys for the Jan. 2 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic at Busch Stadium. The Blackhawks jerseys will be available starting today at Chicago-area Blackhawks stores and on shop.nhl.com. The Blues began distributing pre-ordered jerseys yesterday (THE DAILY). In St. Louis, Jeremy Rutherford notes the Blues’ jersey “dates back to the franchise's original season” in ‘67-68. It is a powder-blue color scheme that “incorporates gold name plates and numbers, along with gold and white stripes on the sleeves and the waist.” The sweater also “includes a Winter Classic patch" (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 11/10). In Illinois, Norm Sanders writes some "attractive features" of the sweaters include the "original blue color, original Blue Note logo and gold ribbed collar from the team’s first NHL season” (BELLEVILLE NEWS-DEMOCRAT, 11/10). YAHOO SPORTS’ Josh Cooper noted the Blackhawks’ jersey is “an homage” to their teams from the late ‘50s and early '60s. The Blackhawks will be playing in their fifth outdoor game, so coming up with a jersey that “isn’t a repeat of a prior uniform probably isn’t easy” (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 10/9).
