Cubs-Indians World Series Hitting Super Bowl-Level Prices On Secondary Market

Secondary market ticket analysts say this year's Cubs-Indians World Series "may be the most expensive event in recent sports history," according to Nereida Moreno of the CHICAGO TRIBUNE. Tickets are being "listed for an average of $6,155 for the Cubs' first home game Friday and $3,125 for Game 1 of the series" tomorrow at Progressive Field in Cleveland on TicketIQ. TicketIQ Founder & CEO Jesse Lawrence said, "It's totally mind-boggling. I don't think we'll see anything like this again." Game 3 tickets at Wrigley Field are being sold for an average of $3,000 on StubHub and $3,423 on SeatGeek. Tickets to games 3, 4 and 5 at Wrigley are "listed on TickPick for an average of $10,590 and $3,862 for games 1,2, 6 and 7 in Cleveland." TickPick spokesperson Jonathan Gluskin said that World Series prices have "risen over $300 since Saturday." World Series tickets are being "sold for more" than the Broncos-Panthers Super Bowl 50 (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 10/24). USA TODAY's A.J. Perez notes Game 5 on SeatGeek had an "average listing price of $4,614." SeatGeek Content Analyst Chris Leyden said, "Right now Game 5 in Chicago would be the second-most in-demand event we have ever seen, only topped by Mayweather-Pacquiao. ... That being said, I would expect that price to end up lower, unless the Cubs are going for the clinch that game" (USA TODAY, 10/24). ESPN.com's Darren Rovell noted one fan bought "four seats in a bullpen box along the first-base line for Game 5 for $17,950 each." The highest total transaction for World Series seats on StubHub "was for a Game 7 at Cleveland's Progressive Field." A fan bought "four tickets in the first row behind the Cubs' dugout for $24,500 each, including fees" (ESPN.com, 10/23).
