Facility Notes

In Reno, Chris Murray notes Hornets G Ramon Sessions has donated $1M to the Univ. of Nevada athletics department for the construction of the "Ramon Sessions Basketball Performance Center," a $2.5M project that will be "completed next season." Sessions' donation is "believed to be one of the largest ever for a NBA player to his alma mater" (RENO GAZETTE-JOURNAL, 10/5). In Charlotte, Rick Bonnell notes other NBAers including Warriors G Stephen Curry (Davidson) and Knicks F Carmelo Anthony (Syracuse) have made "similar donations to build practice sites" (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 10/5).

PERSONAL TRAINER: In Philadelphia, John George reported the Union and Pennsylvania-based Power Home Remodeling have agreed to a "naming-rights partnership" for the MLS club's training complex. Financial terms of the multiyear deal "were not disclosed." The site will be "known as the Power Training Complex" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 10/4).

PARK PLACE: In Detroit, JC Reindl noted construction is "under way on the new seven-story parking deck that will fit 500 vehicles and feature 7,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space" near Little Caesars Arena. The structure "will be a short walk" from the arena and "have room in the future for adding six floors of apartments or offices." The garage's $24.4M price tag will count toward the minimum $200M private-sector spending requirement for "spin-off development within the arena district." That was a "key stipulation in the venue's public-financing deal" for Olympia Development and "must occur no later than five years after the arena opens" (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 10/2).

SAY CHEESE: In Green Bay, Richard Ryman notes Lambeau Field is scheduled to host a Spartan Race on June 24, 2017, and obstacles will be "in and around Lambeau Field, though not on the grass." Spartan Race organizers "approached the Packers" about using the stadium. The team also "agreed to the use of bleachers, concourse and parking lot." Races have been "held at Miller Park, Fenway Park, Citi Field, AT&T Stadium and Citizens Bank Park" (GREEN BAY PRESS-GAZETTE, 10/5).
