Weekend Plans With Marlins Exec VP Claude Delorme: Playoff Hopes, Honoring A Legend

For Marlins Exec VP/Operations & Events CLAUDE DELORME, this weekend will be spent at the ballpark hoping the team has enough left to sneak into the postseason. He said, “We are just trying to hang in there and hopefully slide in there as a Wildcard team. We are still playing relevant baseball, which is nice to see. The future of the Marlins is bright with the players we have on our roster right now.”

TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS: We are in the midst of our final home weekend series of the regular season against the Braves. I start my day off by arriving at the ballpark before 7:00am and I will walk the warning track to evaluate the conditions and make sure there is nothing out of the ordinary. I will spend the next few hours going over the sales reports from the previous night and the forecast for that evening. We will get the updates on the tickets we have sold for Saturday’s game and look at our ticket and food promotions. I will definitely look at the trends and track our estimates. If there are any changes, we will communicate that to our concessionaire and our operations folks. I spend most of the game on the perimeter of the building making sure fans are getting in and there are no issues with ticketing.

WITH HONORS
: We have a bobblehead giveaway on Saturday, so I want to make sure distribution takes place properly at all entrances. Once the people are in the ballpark, then I will go inside and walk the concourse and make sure the concession stands and retail stores are running smoothly. After the game, I catch up on emails and let traffic go by. An hour-and-a-half to two hours after the game, I will finally leave the ballpark. Sunday is a day game. It is kind of a crazy day because we have a 5K run that takes place prior to the game. We are also paying tribute to ICHIRO for reaching the 3,000-hit plateau. We ordered 3,000 baseball bats of which fans have been purchasing. We are also recognizing all of our event staff. We will serve dinner to them and recognize all of the key employees by giving out plaques to the employee of the year in each department. It is an opportunity to say thank you to everyone.

IT KEEPS YOU RUNNIN
’: I do keep busy in my spare time. I enjoy running and spend a lot of time walking around. I play a little bit of golf but not on a regular basis. I also play a bit of tennis. I really enjoy taking my wife out to a nice meal and reconnecting after the week. We both do the cooking in the household. If it’s a barbeque, it is myself. But if it requires a lot more effort, she is leading the pack. Being in baseball for 35 years, I have always been a junk food eater. As we get older, we have to watch it more and more. Because of the hours during baseball season, you’re not always eating the proper foods. I am a sucker for pizza and chicken wings. We have two daughters -- one is in Brazil and the other is in Indiana, so those are two places we’ll leave the area to go visit.
