Former MLBer CURT SCHILLING and others have agreed to a $2.5M settlement to "end their part of a lawsuit" brought over Rhode Island's $75M deal with 38 Studios, his "failed video game company." If approved by the judge overseeing the lawsuit, the agreement filed yesterday with 38 Studios brings an "end to Schilling's involvement with the case." Neither he nor other company officials "admit liability in the settlement" (BOSTON HERALD, 9/20).

Gilbert's legislative package could generate
$2-3B worth of projects in Detroit
PROJECT MANAGER: Cavaliers Owner DAN GILBERT is close to "jumpstarting a legislative package of state tax incentives with the promise it could generate" $2-3B worth of projects in Detroit. A state senate committee meeting scheduled for today will consider a "package of five bills that could help redirect state tax revenues to fuel redevelopment projects on 'brownfields,' land tainted with lead, asbestos or other expensive clean-up contamination" (DETROIT NEWS, 9/20). 

WATER WORKS
: One of L.A.'s biggest water wasters used "almost 12 million gallons of water in the height of the drought," and according to a Center of Investigative Reporting study, that person "could be" Warriors co-Owner PETER GUBER. Guber's house itself is 14,000 square feet, and at the very least, CIR "estimates the property uses between 2.8 million and 5.5 million gallons of water per year." When Giants C BUSTER POSEY was "busted for water-wasting" in '15, his home was using 1.2 million gallons per year (SFGATE.com, 9/19).

I'LL BE WAITING: LENNY KRAVITZ will be the "last-minute replacement" for GREEN DAY, which was to headline Friday night's concert at the Scotiabank World Cup of Hockey Fan Village. Green Day had to cancel its show "due to illness." NHL Exec VP and Exec Producer for Programming & Creative Development STEVE MAYER said that the band THE TRAGICALLY HIP, who "wrapped up their latest tour in mid-August, were approached initially to be one of the two Friday night headliners, but the band 'respectfully passed'" (POSTMEDIA NEWS, 9/20).

LIVIN' THE DREAM: Actor MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY yesterday was at the youth ballpark outside of Globe Life Park to "speak with children from his charity organization," the Just Keep Livin Foundation. McConaughey was joined by former MLBer PRINCE FIELDER and his family. Fielder's appearance was "part of a partnership" between McConaughey's foundation and the Rangers Foundation that has been on-going for five years (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 9/20).

NAMES: N.C. State on Friday unveiled statues of four former basketball coaches, including JIM VALVANO, EVERETT CASE, NORM SLOAN, and KAY YOW. The location of the statues will be called the “Coaches Corner” (BIZJOURNALS.com, 9/19)....Top Rank on Monday “signed Irish boxer MICHAEL CONLAN, who made waves” at the Olympics for “raising his middle fingers at judges after a controversial loss.” The deal is a multi-year deal (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 9/20)....Louisiana-based MidSouth Bancorp has appointed former NFLer JAKE DELHOMME BOD Chair, effective Dec. 31 (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 9/20)....KHLOE KARDASHIAN on Sunday was “with new beau,” Cavaliers C TRISTAN THOMPSON, in Miami (N.Y. POST, 9/20).
