Under Armour Founder, Chair & CEO KEVIN PLANK "urged support" for his Port Covington project and "proposed investing" more than $100M in recreation centers, job training, schools and parks in a full-page ad yesterday in the Baltimore Sun. The open letter "marks Plank's most prominent personal effort moves to drum up support" for the $5.5B project that "hinges on tax-increment financing from the city" (Baltimore SUN, 9/8). Meanwhile, the Catholic Archdiocese of Baltimore "will offer 100 more scholarships for city students to attend its schools," thanks to a $1M donation from Plank's charitable organization, the Cupid Foundation (Baltimore SUN, 9/8). 

CHECKING HIS LIST: YAHOO SPORTS' Pat Forde listed his "Most Important Men In Suits" for the '16 college football season. Texas President GREG FENVES made the list as he will "cast a key vote in the Big 12 expansion proceedings, and he might also have an important decision to make on the future of the school’s football coach, CHARLIE STRONG." Big 12 Commissioner BOB BOWLSBY also made the list, as he is "presiding over a most curious expansion process" (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 9/6).

NAMES: The latest TV spot from U.S. Sen. ROB PORTMAN (R-Ohio)  "features an endorsement" from JACK NICKLAUS. Portman's campaign notes that this is Nicklaus' "first-ever appearance in a political ad," though he has "publicly campaigned for Republicans in the past" (CLEVELAND.com, 9/7)....NFL Panthers coach RON RIVERA for the second year in a row "will be the honorary starter in a Charlotte 5K run/walk Saturday that supports research on pancreatic cancer, the disease that took his older brother’s life last summer" (CHARLOTTEOBSERVER.com, 9/7)....A new book from Panthers C RYAN KALIL and former NFLers JORDAN GROSS and GEOFF HANGARTNER, titled “THE ROOKIE HANDBOOK,” gives “snarky advice" to incoming players (N.Y. POST, 9/8)....Former MLBer CURT SCHILLING “has a new syndicated radio show,” as he has “inked a deal with the Howie Carr Radio Network to host a three-hour show on Saturday mornings starting this weekend” (BOSTON GLOBE, 9/7).
