Source: Univ. Of Houston Strongly Considering Naming Basketball Arena Fertitta Center

The Univ. of Houston is "strongly considering naming its renovated basketball arena Fertitta Center," according to a source cited by Joseph Duarte of the HOUSTON CHRONICLE. UH Board of Regents Chair Tilman Fertitta last month gave a $20M lead gift -- the "largest ever by an individual to the athletic department" -- toward the $60M price-tag for the project. The name will "replace Hofheinz Pavilion, which has been the name of the on-campus basketball arena since it opened" in '69. UH went through a "public spat with the family of late Harris County judge Roy Hofheinz until both sides reached a compromise earlier this summer" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 8/24).
