Audience Analysis: NASCAR Cup Race Down 4% After Move To USA Due To Olympics

USA Network finished with 3.83 million viewers on Sunday for the NASCAR Sprint Cup race from Watkins Glen. The race was moved to USA to accommodate Olympic coverage on NBCSN. The audience for the race topped any Rio Games coverage on cable TV during the opening weekend, but was down 4% from the same race last year, which was on NBCSN. The race in ’14 on ESPN drew 4.94 million viewers, despite having a delay of over an hour due to track damage after a crash.

The chart below lists final audience figures from select recent sports telecasts. Figures for NBC's morning, afternoon and late night Olympic telecasts were unavailable at presstime.
