Wake Forest To Sell Alcohol At Football, Basketball Venues Beginning This Season

Wake Forest this football season at BB&T Field will become the first D-I school in North Carolina to "sell alcohol stadiumwide," according to a front-page piece by Dan Collins of the WINSTON-SALEM JOURNAL. Beer and wine also will be available at Joel Coliseum for basketball games, and the school is "considering offering it" at baseball games and men's and women's soccer games. Alcohol previously had only been available at premium sections in the football and basketball venues. The school will add "security personnel, and wrist bands will be required to buy alcohol" (WINSTON-SALEM JOURNAL, 8/12). Wake Forest AD Ron Wellman "cited the success of Top Hat Tavern" over the last two seasons at BB&T Field as one reason to expand beer and wine sales throughout the entire stadium. Spectra Food Services "will handle the sales," and alcohol will be available "at all permanent concessions stands as well as several new portable sales points and signature concept stands." Wine also will be sold at "select concession points" (Greensboro NEWS & RECORD, 8/12).
