Media Notes

The Brewers and WTMJ-AM yesterday announced that they "extended their radio rights agreement to continue their long partnership." In Milwaukee, Tom Haudricourt noted WTMJ has "served as the radio flagship of the Brewers for all but two seasons" since the team moved to Milwaukee in '70. The prior agreement carried through the '16 season. Terms of the new deal were not disclosed (JSONLINE.com, 7/20). Also in Milwaukee, Rich Kirchen noted WTMJ "maintains the distinction of carrying all of Wisconsin’s big-league sports teams" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 7/20).

STARTING SMALL: RE/CODE's Kurt Wagner wrote Twitter's recent streaming deals with Wimbledon, the NBA and the Pac-12 "sounds impressive, like Twitter is assembling its own version of a cable network." But it is "delivering something else: 10 NFL games, and then a bunch of fringe content" that "certainly won't drive mainstream audiences like an NFL game would." Twitter’s deal with Wimbledon "didn’t include any live match footage." Its NBA deal "doesn’t include any live game broadcasts, either, and its Pac-12 Network package has water polo, ice hockey and wrestling." But the "upside" is that "it's still video." And if this is "what Twitter can get for now, it’s not the worst thing" (RECODE.net, 7/19).

STEEL RESERVE: In Pittsburgh, Renatta Signorini notes ESPN will "bring a three-hour live broadcast of 'SportsCenter on the Road'" to the Steelers' night practice Aug. 5 at Latrobe Memorial Stadium. ESPN Dir of Communications Andy Hall said, "We have done SportsCenter programs and reports from NFL training camps before, but this will be the longest show of this type" (PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE-REVIEW, 7/21).
