Sportradar To Deliver Stats To The AP, Continuing Recent Flurry Of U.S.-Based Deals

Minnesota-based data company Sportradar US has "signed a deal to provide global sports statistics to the Associated Press," according to Adam Belz of the Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE. The deal "means the AP’s 1,400 daily newspaper members and thousands of TV and radio broadcast customers will receive scores, stats, boxscores, leaderboards, schedules and standings from Sportradar," including MLB, the NFL, NBA, NASCAR, NHL and college football and basketball (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 6/8). SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL's Eric Fisher writes the multiyear agreement is "designed as a prelude to a likely expansion into higher-end data such as motion-tracking-based content and other next-generation statistics." Sportradar’s acquisition of the AP business "follows a run of new partnerships over the past 18 months, including deals with the NFL, NASCAR and the NHL," and a $44.2M funding deal last fall that involved Capitals and Wizards Owner Ted Leonsis, Hornets Owner Michael Jordan and Mavericks Owner Mark Cuban (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 6/6 issue).
