Franchise Notes

In DC, Steven Goff noted DC United has moved their June 22 home match against the Revolution to June 25 "because Saturdays are better than Wednesdays for ticket sales and RFK Stadium accessibility." The June 25 date "was initially unavailable," as a 5K race is "taking place that morning on the RFK campus." However, the race was not going to "cause scheduling conflicts." DC United learned recently that it could "play on the 25th and decided to take advantage" (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 6/7).

SECURITY CHECK: In Nashville, Dave Boucher reports the Titans "demanded and received a 'change in leadership' for one of the private security firms that helps staff events at Nissan Stadium following an official complaint that the company had hired guards who weren't legally allowed to work security." Titans VP/Communications Jimmy Stanton said that APEX Security Group is one of several companies that provides security for Nissan Stadium. However, a Metro Nashville Police Department complaint filed in January said that the group "hired guards for the Dec. 6 and Dec. 27 home games who were not registered to work security in the state." Stanton on Monday said that the Titans "were aware of only one instance of APEX using two unregistered officers" (Nashville TENNESSEAN, 6/8).

ATTENTION GRABBER: MLB Network's Peter Gammons noted it will be "very important" for the first-place Indians to make a move before the trade deadline. The team is going to "lose some attention" next month, as the Republican National Convention is headed to Cleveland and the Browns report to training camp ("High Heat," MLB Network, 6/7). Meanwhile, in Boston, Nick Cafardo cited sources as saying that as long as the Dolan family owns the Indians, there "won’t be a threat of them leaving Cleveland." However, that "could be a different story" if the Dolans sell the Indians, as the team "simply can’t draw" at home. The Indians are "already down about 2,500 fans per game from last season, when they averaged 17,172 after 26 dates" at Progressive Field (BOSTON GLOBE, 6/5).
