Bose Launches New Wireless Headphones Aimed At Fitness Market

Image

If you happened to be on Twitter yesterday and follow any number of athletes, you probably saw a tweet like this from one of Bose’s many sponsored athletes:

Bose just released four new sets of wireless headphones, and they are heavily advertising these new pairs of headphones with the help of athletes, since they were designed to meet many athlete’s demands. The claim to fame for this new line of headphones is that they are now wireless, with Bluetooth and NFC (Near Field Communication) connectivity.

If NFC does not sound familiar, it is what makes something like Apple Pay work. Most smartphones have built in NFC these days, and it essentially uses radio to connect with a device in the near vicinity.

Now, two of these headphone styles are more so for athletes on the road, who need a wireless, noise cancelling option to get some much needed rest before or after a game.

But, the other two sets of new headphones—the SoundSport and SoundSport Pulse—are specially designed for a hi-tech way to work out. The SoundSport headphones look like a typical pair of workout ear buds, but in wireless form. So, they have one wire connecting the two ear buds, and easily connect via Bluetooth and NFC.

While the SoundSport headphones are fairly advanced, the SoundSport Pulse are the most interesting of all of these headphone announcements. The SoundSport Pulse headphones come with a built-in heart rate monitor. Because the headphones are connected via Bluetooth, the monitor works much the same as any wearable, in that it can operate in conjunction with any fitness app to track the user’s workout.

For those that are annoyed by wireless headphones because of short battery life in between charges—the SoundSport headphones come with six hours of battery life, whereas the SoundSport Pulse have up to five hours.
