YES Network Takes Down Port Authority Ads Dealing With Ongoing Carriage Battle

YES Network has removed its ad takeover from the Port Authority Bus Terminal in N.Y. after about a six-week run. The RSN, locked in a bitter carriage battle with Comcast, last month installed a series of large wall and floor signs and hanging banners covering the transit hub, which services hundreds of thousands of commuters daily from N.J., suburban N.Y., and Pennsylvania. Those regions are among the key areas impacted by the ongoing dispute, and the signs urged Comcast subscribers to switch to another carrier to receive YES Network. The channel remains dark to more than 900,000 households, there have been no new talks between the two sides and the number of Comcast subscribers who switched to other distributors is believed to be small. But YES Network said the bus terminal signs, along with a series of TV, radio, newspaper, online and social media ads, have helped drive consumer awareness to the issue. Marketing will remain active across multiple platforms. “Going forward, we will continue to make sure fans are aware of what they are missing, but the tactics will continue to evolve,” said YES Network VP/Communications Eric Handler. The Yankees’ game Saturday night against the Red Sox will be the club’s first over-the-air broadcast of the season after its ’16 TV schedule was front-loaded to cable.
