Franchise Notes

In DC, Jorge Castillo cites a source as saying that Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld is "under contract for next season ... which strongly suggests that he will return for his 14th season" in charge of the team's basketball operations. Despite this season most likely ending "without a playoff berth," Grunfeld is now the NBA's "fifth longest-tenured" chief exec (WASHINGTON POST, 4/6).

CROWD WITH PRIDE: In Orlando, Alicia DelGallo notes the NWSL Orlando Pride yesterday "launched #FilledWithPride," a hashtag that will be used to help "break the NWSL attendance record of 21,114 people" for the team's home opener April 23 against the Houston Dash. The previous record was set last year on July 22 "when the Seattle Reign FC traveled to face Portland Thorns FC" (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 4/6).

WATCH & LEARN: A WASHINGTON POST editorial noted the Indians have "officially demoted Chief Wahoo" as their primary logo. The "grinning, red-faced caricature that so many people see as an insult to Native Americans is on his way to being completely dropped, though not not quickly enough." The editorial: "Let's hope his inevitable demise opens the eyes of Washington's football team to the reality that it needs to drop its offensive name" (WASHINGTON POST, 4/5).
