Intel To Buy Replay Technologies After Collaboration For '16 NBA All-Star Game

Intel yesterday said that it is "buying Replay Technologies, an Israeli company that helps sports broadcasters show a panoramic view of the action," according to Ina Fried of RE/CODE. Financial terms "were not disclosed." Intel also "wouldn't say how many employees Replay has, but said the team will continue to be led by current CEO Oren Yogev." The two companies "worked together on a project" for the recent NBA All-Star Game, and Intel CEO Brian Krzanich "has been talking up the coming intersection between the worlds of sports and technology" (RECODE.net, 3/8). ENGADGET's Steve Dent notes Replay Technologies is the "company behind the crazy 360-degree freeD video used during the slam-dunk competition" at this year's ASG. The system "can freeze action from any angle then rotate all around it" (ENGADGET.com, 3/9). In Israel, Inbal Orpaz notes Replay Technologies "develops video technology and has attracted" $27M in capital. About half of that "was raised just last week, led by Deutsche Telekom." In '14, Replay "won an Emmy Award for its technical work" with the Yankees and YES Network (HAARETZ.com, 3/9).
