Donald Trump Plans To Be At Next Week's PGA Tour Event, But In Much Smaller Role

Donald Trump said he will be at next week's WGC-Cadillac Championship at Trump National Doral, but his presence will be "very limited," according to Alex Miceli of GOLFWEEK. Trump, who is seeking the Republican presidential nomination, noted he will "have the Secret Service" along with him during his time at the tournament (GOLFWEEK, 2/22 issue). In Miami, Bill Van Smith reported Trump National Doral Golf Dir Darrin Helfrick and Cadillac Championship Chair Butch Buccholz both "confirmed Trump's attendance" and said that plans "are being made for that occurrence." A PGA Tour spokesperson did not say "what level of participation Trump would be permitted to have at the tournament." Buchholz said, "It's his property, his resort. ... It's not his event. It's the tour's event." Van Smith noted the PGA Tour has "objected to some of Trump's campaign comments, particularly concerning Mexicans and Muslims." While Trump's involvement is unknown, PGA Tour Communications Manager Candace Reinheimer said that Eric Trump, one of Donald's sons, is "expected at the tournament and will be permitted to participate in the trophy presentation if he chooses" (MIAMIHERALD.com, 2/25). Golf Channel's Tim Rosaforte noted it "could be crazy" if Trump is at the event "there all week." Rosaforte: "The plan is for him (to) not be there until Sunday, and to have not a position as much out front of the cameras as he had the last couple years" ("Morning Drive," Golf Channel, 2/23).
