The S.F. CHRONICLE reports two large banners advertising Super Bowl 50 and Verizon Wireless recently installed on the Four Embarcadero building "will shrink substantially following the threat of a lawsuit from the city attorney's office." The banners, which "cover most of the building on two sides, can be seen towering over the Super Bowl City fan village area now taking shape at Justin Herman Plaza." The signs "violate a city law passed by voters in 2002 that prohibits any new general advertising signs" in the city (S.F. CHRONICLE, 1/28).

TOAST OF THE TOWN: In Champaign, Julie Wurth notes the Univ. of Illinois' new contract with Nike provides $4M worth of "shoes, apparel and other items the first year, escalating by $100,000 a year" to $4.9M in year 10. But there is "no up-front sponsorship payment." UI "retains the right" to get some of the $4M allotment in cash, if desired, but "not on a dollar-for-dollar basis." Every $3 worth of merchandise "would be converted into $1 in cash," and the "maximum allowed would be $750,000 worth of merchandise, or $250,000 a year" (Champaign NEWS-GAZETTE, 1/28).

FLYING HIGH: Knicks F Kristaps Porzingis and NHL Rangers C Ryan McDonagh have teamed with Delta Air Lines for "Fly Like A Pro," a new season-long awards program to reward Knicks and Rangers fans for their loyalty. The grand prize winner and a friend will receive an all-expenses paid trip on a Delta private jet to see a Knicks and Rangers road game next season (THE DAILY).
