STATSports And SAP Announce Big Data Partnership

Two major sports technology companies today announced a partnership that should empower coaching staffs to know even more about their players.

STATSports Technologies will partner with SAP SE to have both companies combine data to provide an integrated solution for high level sports teams. This partnership will integrate the SAP Sports One solution with STATSports Viper system.

The newly combined platform will allow coaches to evaluate their training, medical and injury data in order to give a comprehensive and streamlined view of each player’s output and rehabilitation. This platform will help assist teams with converting player data into insights for coaches to use to make decisions.

The STATSports Viper pod device collects player data during training and matches throughout a season, providing coaches with insights into their performance.

The system allows coaches to monitor their players on a daily basis and analyzes training loads and player outputs allowing them to detect when players are most susceptible to injury.

General Manager of STATSports Paul Johnston commented on the partnership:

“We are delighted to be teaming up with a global giant such as SAP SE. We are very excited to add our experience and knowledge to this new offering on the market and believe it will be of great assistance to our current clients, allowing a comprehensive view of all player information in a consolidated and user-friendly package.” he said.

STATSports has already partnered with the Carolina Panthers into their day-to-day operations and it can be argued that they have played a role in helping the team to their current 14-0 record.

Johnson additionally went into how partnering with SAP will help continue to push the capabilities of their offerings:

“The Viper system is used by elite sports teams the world over and we believe by partnering with SAP SE we have created the ultimate tool for ensuring that players are kept in peak physical condition over the course of a season. With the combined solutions coaches will receive meaningful data instantly about individual players, which allows for full analysis of their individual performance.”

With two companies like STATSports and SAP teaming up, it will continue to push the envelope on the amount of actionable data teams will be able to collect. With professional athletes making upwards of tens of millions of dollars every season, it is imperative for those investments to be healthy and active on the field. We will continue to monitor future partnerships and how the new trend of teams investing in tech to prevent injuries and save money.
