Weekend Plans With USOC's Patrick Sandusky: Birthday Parties, Ballet Recitals, The Bears

Raising a family in Colorado Springs has allowed USOC Chief External Affairs Officer PATRICK SANDUSKY the opportunity to enjoy everything the outdoors has to offer. “We try and take advantage of living at 7,000 feet,” he said. “My wife grew up skiing and my oldest children are at the point where they can ski almost anything. When the weather breaks and you get out those flannel shirts to go hiking in the middle of a secluded mountain in Colorado, you feel really refreshed that next day when you come back into work.”

FELIZ CUMPLEAÑOS: I have 6-year-old twins -- boy and girl -- and a 4-year-old daughter. Each of the twins are having a friend sleepover on Friday. We will be having sort of a pizza and movie night. It will be a little hectic around here with five kids in the house. We will probably see if there is any decent snow on Saturday and drive up to Breckenridge. We drive up and ski the morning through mid-afternoon, have some lunch and then come back home. Saturday is actually my 41st birthday. We got a babysitter Saturday night for the kids so that my wife and I can go out with a small group of friends for dinner and celebrate. Every year for my birthday now we go out for Mexican food. It has become a ritual over the past five years.

DA BEARS
: My usual Sunday routine is to get up, make some breakfast and turn on whatever EPL game is on NBC. While I am doing that, the kids will watch some cartoons. I live in Colorado Springs, but no matter what, Chicago will always be home. I will definitely watch the Redskins-Bears game, which comes on at 11:00am out here. I catch every Bears game. It carries a lot of burden with it, but I cannot choose it any more than I can choose members of my family. The worst part of my weekend is watching the Bears game and trying to avoid Broncos fans as much as I can for the next week. We have two different ballet recitals in the afternoon for my girls and a birthday party that my son is going to. My wife and I will be playing a little tag team of dropping off and picking up.

INTERNATIONAL FLAVOR: We both like to cook. She will do most of the cooking during the week and I try to pull my weight on the weekends with both breakfast and dinner. I travel a lot for work and have been to a lot of great places to eat around the world. Having lived in London for five years, I believe it is one of the best food cities in the world. Another place that is amazing for food is Singapore. It is such a mix of different cultures. I have been spending a lot of time in L.A. lately and if you have not eaten out there in a while you would be amazed at how the food scene has changed. It is way beyond celeb restaurants on one end and amazing food trucks on the other. The area around downtown L.A. is a new food mecca in the U.S. The freshness and innovation of the dishes are amazing. Last time I was there I had lentils and bone marrow right out of a large beef bone.
