MotusPro Launches To Measure Batting And Pitching Mechanics In Real-Time

Motus Global has just launched the MotusPro, a full-body sensor technology to be used in real-time by athletes training and competing. The MotusPro is the first multi-sensor training tool that measures high speed throwing and batting biomechanics through wearable technology for baseball players.

Motus Global hopes their new technology will change the training process for athletes. The training system aims to assist pitchers, batters, and coaches through biomechanics to tackle athletes’ strengths, weaknesses, and prevent injuries.

The training system consists of five wireless 6-axis motion sensors that are fit into pockets in a compression shirt, batting gloves, and cleats. It also creates a summary of biomechanical data for for coaches and players to analyze.

The technology will improve batter and pitcher performance by measuring movement patterns between the body’s segments including stresses acting on the elbow and shoulder joints as well as the timing and strength of segments in the kinetic chain. Other features include extracting joint angles, stride length, foot contact timing, and bat speed. All of these features are displayed on the convenient mobile iOS app that works via Bluetooth.motus-pro-tag (1)

“I’ve been working with Motus the past few years at its biomechanics lab to gain better insights on the mechanics of my swing.  A mobile system capable of allowing me to collect this type of information in the cage and on the field is very exciting.  The team at Motus includes metrics that are truly valuable to me and most baseball players in this product.  MotusPro will change the way athletes study their mechanics and train,” said Andrew McCutchen, Center Fielder, Pittsburgh Pirates.motus-pro-5-sensors (1)

Athletes can utilize the data from the app right away and also store a game’s worth of data locally on the sensors 80 Mb of memory. The sensors measure the throwing and hitting motion and have capabilities of ± 24 g’s and ± 4000 /s at 1000 Hz. The data is also user friendly with its dashboards on the MotusPro web portal. Users can then visualize more complex data outside of the mobile app.

“When we founded Motus, we had a very clear vision: build an industry leading biomechanics lab and then deploy technology capable of providing athletes feedback on a mass-scale, where they train and compete.  MotusPro is a system born of the science from our lab, with performance, rehabilitative, and analytical insight capabilities unlike any other wearable in the sports space,” said Joe Nolan, CEO, Motus Global.
