Buyers & Sellers: Bill Simmons Pays $7.5M For Malibu Home; Steph Curry Buys Bay Area Pad

HBO's BILL SIMMONS has made an "under-the-radar, off-market acquisition" of a $7.5M home "along Malibu's billionaire-lined Carbon Beach." The almost-1,500-square-foot, "two-story cedar-shingled residence, purchased via trust, was originally built" in '50 with three bedrooms and three baths. Among the "rich and powerful" who live on the stretch of land are music mogul DAVID GEFFEN, CBS President & CEO LES MOONVES, Dreamworks CEO JEFFREY KATZENBERG, producer JOEL SILVER and ATP/WTA BNP Paribas Open Owner LARRY ELLISON (VARIETY.com, 12/1).

BALLER HOMES: Warriors G STEPHEN CURRY has "made a play away from the court," buying a home in Walnut Creek, Calif., for $3.2M. The two-story, nearly 8,000-square-foot Mediterranean estate was built in '12 and "has a gated motor court and a formal courtyard entry" (LATIMES.com, 11/24)....Bulls F MIKE DUNLEAVY JR. in October paid $3.85M in cash through a land trust for a "newly built six-bedroom mansion in Lincoln Park" on Chicago's North Side. The 6,000-square-foot-plus mansion "had been listed in May" for close to $4M. The house "has a limestone facade, 6 1/2 baths, three fireplaces, an elevator, a penthouse roof deck and a terrace with skyline views, an eat-in kitchen with Wolf, Sub-Zero and Bosch appliances, a master suite with his and hers closets" (CHICAGOTRIBUNE.com, 11/30).

FRONT OFFICE MOVES: Lakers Exec VP/Player Personnel JIM BUSS is "selling an ocean-view house under construction at The Strand at Headlands in Dana Point, where he has purchased several parcels in recent years." The home, priced at $5.995M, sits "a few rows back" from the ocean. The 4,560-square-foot home is "scheduled to be completed" in early spring (ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER, 12/1)....LRMR Management Founder MAVERICK CARTER recently paid $3.465M for a "renovated Hamptons-inspired compound in a popular celebrity section of Hollywood Hills" in L.A. The home includes an "entrance on a corner lot with a motor court" and views of the famous Hollywood sign (LATIMES.com, 11/25)....Mets VP/Player Development & Amateur Scouting PAUL DEPODESTA has "put a high-rise unit in downtown San Diego on the market" for about $1.2M. A den/office, three bedrooms and two bathrooms are "within more than 1,600 square feet of living space." Two parking spaces and storage "are included with the unit" (LATIMES.com, 12/1).
