LPGA Schedule For '16 Has Uniquely Bunched Look Thanks To Olympic Competition

The '16 LPGA season will "take on a uniquely bunched look" due to the Rio Games, according to sources cited by Beth Ann Nichols of GOLFWEEK. The tour's schedule is "expected to be released in late November." There will be "11 consecutive weeks of action from mid-May to late July that will feature three major championships" and the biennial Int'l Crown team event. There are some "interesting travel swings, as well, with players criss-crossing the continent." One four-week stretch has the LPGA "going from Michigan to New Jersey, then cross-country to Washington and then back to Michigan." The LPGA "should match" its '15 schedule of 32 events in addition to the Int'l Crown and the Rio Games. The "biggest question mark remaining" for '16 "seems to be the Lorena Ochoa Invitational." Sources said that the event "might move from its Mexico City location, perhaps to Monterrey, or disappear." It also is "possible that a revamped Mobile, Ala., tournament could replace the Ochoa event" (GOLFWEEK.com, 10/27).
