Franchise Notes

In Nashville, David Climer writes with last week marking the two-year anniversary of Titans Founder Bud Adams’ death, the team is now a "rudderless ship, captained by three separate-but-equal ownership entities that either don’t care about what’s going on or are incapable of fixing it." Climer: "Say what you will about Bud, but the Titans were his pride and joy. The current ownership group treats the franchise like an investment -- nothing more, nothing less." The "only solution" is to "sell the team" (Nashville TENNESSEAN, 10/28).

FORGET THE PAST: In Detroit, Drew Sharp wrote the "only hope the Lions have" of success in the near future is Owner & Chair Martha Firestone Ford "treating a franchise that's one of the oldest in the NFL history as an expansion team." Sharp: "Start fresh. Don't be afraid to listen to advice from league elders regarding identifying quality young football people ready to become chief executives." That is something her husband, the late William Clay Ford Sr., "never did." The Lions "don't concern themselves with public apathy," and they "don't worry about the compulsively tormented finally mustering the internal strength to say 'no more' and walk away." That is why ownership "never senses urgency" (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 10/27).

BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE
: MLB Network's Peter Gammons said the Marlins' managerial opening is a "very good job considering how much restructuring there has been in the organization." Gammons: "They have not let people know yet how many changes there are. (Marlins Owner) Jeffrey Loria seems very clearly invested in trying to find infrastructure that runs from the Major League coaching staff down to the minor leagues” (“MLB Tonight,” MLB Network, 10/26).
