Jazz Sign 10-Year Deal With Local Security Company Vivint For Arena Naming Rights

EnergySolutions Arena "has a new name," as Jazz parent company Miller Sports Properties yesterday announced local home security company Vivint "as the venue's next naming-rights sponsor," according to a front-page piece by Aaron Falk of the SALT LAKE TRIBUNE. The 10-year deal begins immediately, with Vivint "owning an option to extend the lease another five." Temporary signs "were already hanging outside" what will be known as Vivint Smart Home Arena yesterday. The new name "will be on the court when the Jazz play their first home game Nov. 4, and signs will be installed during the next month." After it became clear earlier this year that EnergySolutions was not going to renew its deal, which had been in place since '06, Miller Sports Properties President Steve Starks said that the Jazz in June "started vetting possible replacements." Team officials "were in discussions with more than 10 possible arena sponsors, before reaching a deal with Vivint last month" (SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, 10/27). Vivint CMO Jeff Lyman said that while many in Utah "are familiar with the billion-dollar tech firm, many outside the state are not familiar with the company." In Utah, Jasen Lee notes now the company "has a platform to expand its brand to more potential consumers across North America." Lyman: "We’re this brand that is sort of an obscure name. We want to make sure that when we introduce Vivint to a whole new audience through this relationship, that we do so by helping them understand who we are and what we do" (DESERET NEWS, 10/27).
