Temple Proposes 35,000-Seat On-Campus Football Stadium Estimated At $100M

Temple Univ. BOT Chair Patrick O'Connor on Thursday "confirmed that a proposed 35,000-seat stadium with an estimated cost" of $100M "is being pursued for the northwest corner of campus," with discussions expected at the December trustees meeting, according to Narducci & Purcell of the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER. O'Connor said that the endeavor "has received 'some seven-figure commitments' for funding." Temple's AAC opponents "have built football stadiums of comparable size." Cincinnati's Nippert Stadium "was at 35,000" before an $86M expansion to 40,000 this year. O'Connor said that if a stadium is built, it "would be much more than just for the football team." Fundraising "will be a key and Temple officials have been talking with potential donors." O'Connor said that these plans "have been ongoing." But Narducci & Purcell note it "doesn't hurt the cause" that Temple's football team is off to a 7-0 start this season. Currently, Temple plays its home games at the Eagles' Lincoln Financial Field (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 10/23).
