I Want Candy: Marshawn Lynch Hawks Skittles In Home Shopping Network Skit

Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch yesterday appeared in a "home shopping network promo that could easily pass for a 'Saturday Night Live' parody" to promote and sell Skittles, according to Todd Dewey of the LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL. Lynch during his "highly entertaining appearance on Evine Live" came off as "downright charming while singing the praises of Skittles with host Allison Waggoner." Lynch at one point was asked to "describe his relationship with the fruity candy." He responded, "We intimate. We done became one." Dewey notes the infomercial "also features a model wearing a Skittles necklace and Waggoner presents Lynch with a Skittles pinky ring as well that he kisses before putting it on" (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 9/2). YAHOO SPORTS' Frank Schwab wrote the five-minute segment "looks like the parody of all parodies." Despite the model "wearing the Skittles necklace, Waggoner presenting Lynch a Skittles ring like she was asking him to marry her, Waggoner explaining that it would take 12 packs of Skittles end-to-end to be as tall as Lynch," apparently this is "as legitimate as segments selling candy on a home shopping show can get." Lynch "is funny through the whole thing," which is "really why it's a shame the guy doesn't talk to the media" (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 9/1). ADWEEK's Tim Nudd wrote Evine Live deserves "kudos" for "green-lighting what ended up being a light self-parody of the format." PR firm Olson Engage "dreamed up the idea to mark the candy's second season as an official sponsor of the NFL" (ADWEEK.com, 9/1).
