Marketplace Roundup

In Chicago, Kim Janssen notes Cubs P Jake Arrieta following his no-hitter against the Dodgers on Sunday night wore "one-piece pajamas" from California-based clothier Toddland as part of a pre-planned pajama-themed team flight home. Arrieta "stole the show with a whimsical gray mustache-print onesie" that he also "wore to the press conference." Toddland Founder Todd Masters yesterday was "scrambling to reboot" the company's website and "manufacture more of the now-iconic onesies." He said, "I had more than 200 messages this morning telling me we should restock, and I was like, 'No (expletive)!'" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 9/1).

BEER ME: ESPN.com's Darren Rovell noted sales of beer with late Penn State football coach Joe Paterno's name on it "are so brisk that the company that makes it, Duquesne Brewing, is gearing up for a second run after just a week on the shelves." Duquesne Owner Mark Dudash said, "We've sold close to a million cans. We're just trying to keep up with demand." Rovell noted the beer is "currently only being distributed throughout Pennsylvania and in parts of New Jersey" (ESPN.com, 8/31).

AIR OF INVINCIBILITY: In Chicago, Bernie Lincicome wrote Basketball HOFer Michael Jordan "never has known how to take a compliment." He has been "sullen and selfish and a wonderful basketball player, as it is possible to be all three at once, maybe even necessary." His lawsuit against defunct grocer Dominick's was "petty and typical and did nothing to enhance the image he said he was trying to protect." Lincicome: "But that's Jordan. He knows how to carry a grudge, to recall every slight, real or imagined" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 8/30).

SLEEPER PICKS: ADWEEK's Brian Flood noted 16 agencies -- Horizon, OMD/Optimum Sports, Initiative, Havas, Optimedia, Carat, Zenith, Assembly, Wieden + Kennedy, Starcom, MEC, Universal McCann, Mediavest, Mediacom, PHD and Mindshare -- on Thursday proceeded to "battle it out" in N.Y. for the NFL's annual Media Agency Fantasy Draft Party. The top two agencies will be "facing off in an NFL-sponsored flag football game." NFL Senior VP/Media Sales Brian Matthews said, "It's for the agencies to get together, have some fun and experience NFL.com fantasy football. They get to know our product, they get to know our team, and they get to know each other" (ADWEEK.com, 8/28).
