NFL Marketing Notes: NFLPA Unveils T-Shirt Line Honoring N.Y. Firefighters

The NFLPA on Thursday unveiled a limited-edition collection of T-shirts to celebrate the 150-year legacy of N.Y.'s firefighters. Some of the most popular Jets and Giants will be featured in the designs, including Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr., Jets WR Eric Decker, Giants QB Eli Manning and Jets CB Darrelle Revis. The shirts feature official FDNY marks and the names and numbers of the select players, and are now available for a limited time at 25 Modell’s sporting goods locations in N.Y. and New Jersey (NFLPA). On Long Island, Nick Klopsis notes the collection's unveiling "coincides with this year's Jets-Giants game Dec. 6 at MetLife Stadium." A portion of the proceeds will benefit the FDNY Foundation (NEWSDAY, 8/27).

HAIR RAISE: ESPN.com's Darren Rovell reports Beckham was named the "new face" of Procter & Gamble's Head & Shoulders brand, succeeding former NFLer Troy Polamalu and continuing a "lucrative offseason" for the Giants WR. The shampoo brand on Friday released a spot featuring Beckham's "career highlights." It finishes with the tagline, "Shoulders were made for greatness. Not for dandruff." This comes after Beckham this offseason "scored an exclusive autograph deal" with Steiner Sports, landed the "Madden NFL 16" cover, acquired an equity stake in sports drink Roar and agreed to endorse supplement brand Exos. He previously had deals with Nike and appeared in ads for Foot Locker and Lenovo (ESPN.com, 8/28).

MONEY IN THE BANK: In Chicago, Lewis Lazare reported PNC's marketing effort tied to its new deal with the Bears, which "is being orchestrated in conjunction with" its agency of record, Deutsch, N.Y., "starts with a lot of visibility at Soldier Field." The luxury suites "have been rebranded as PNC Suites, and the PNC name will flash regularly on the LED ribbon screen that wraps around the interior perimeter of Soldier Field and on the scoreboard." A new "understated TV ad from Deutsch talking about PNC's investment and wealth management capabilities ends with a reference to the bank's new status" as the Bears' official bank. PNC print, digital and out-of-home advertising "also will trumpet the relationship" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 8/27).

DON'T HAYNE THE PLAYER: In Sydney, Michael Chammas reported Nike is "ready to push the button to mass produce" jerseys featuring 49ers RB Jarryd Hayne after "unprecedented sales over the past fortnight." Custom-made "Hayne 38" jerseys are in "high demand." Given Hayne, a former Australian rugby player, is "yet to cement a spot on the final 53-man roster, his jersey has to be custom made by retailers -- but that hasn't stopped 49ers fans." A 49ers store salesperson said, "I've never seen anything like it before. It's crazy." On the club's official merchandise store website, Hayne's jersey "leads the page with five different options available to men ($99.95), women ($94.95) and youth ($69.95)" (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 8/26).

HYPERICE IN HIS VEINS: Hyperice on Tuesday announced that it has signed Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson as a partner. Other partners include Clippers F Blake Griffin, skier Lindsey Vonn, former NFLer Troy Polamalu, U.S. women's national soccer team GK Hope Solo and NBA Kings F Rudy Gay (Hyperice).
