The Univ. of Illinois has "struck a deal with a fourth agency to help it deal with the aftermath" of alleged mistreatment by women's basketball and football coaches. UI paid for "$50,000 worth of 'risk management services'" from K.C.-based Dan Beebe Group, led by the former Big 12 commissioner. The deal "is for 11 months." Specifically, the agency's work, "due to begin this month, will include" reviewing UI "policies and procedures and conducting on-campus interviews to help form an independent misconduct risk assessment." It also includes "independent training forums in separate sessions for coaches and student-athletes, in both the fall and spring." Also, independent "training forums for athletic administrators and employees, including student interns and volunteers, in both the fall and spring" (Champaign NEWS-GAZETTE, 8/21).

CHANNEL SURF: In Boston, Matthew Gilbert profiles Red Sox Chair and longtime TV producer TOM WERNER in the paper's TV Confessions feature. Werner said one TV show he "always loved and admired was 'M*A*S*H,' because it mixed drama and comedy so seamlessly." He added, "My favorite show that I produced was '3RD ROCK FROM THE SUN,' which also mixed high and low comedy." Werner also said of his favorite bad TV show, "My daughter got me hooked on 'THE BACHELORETTE' this season. I was so happy when KAITLYN picked SHAWN over NICK. OMG, I can’t even believe I just said that" (BOSTON GLOBE, 8/21).

LIFE AFTER HOCKEY: Free agent NHL LW DANIEL CARCILLO has "devoted much of his time and effort during the last two months to forming a not-for-profit organization called Chapter 5 that is in the early stages of developing a program to assist players after their hockey careers come to an end." Carcillo will "host a party on his day with the Stanley Cup on Aug. 30 at the Dana Hotel and Spa in Chicago" from 12:00-4:00pm CT. Proceeds will "go to Chapter 5, which honors" Carcillo's late teammate and friend STEVE MONTADOR, who died earlier this year. Carcillo plans to "launch a website in the next few months that will include a comprehensive program retired players can use to prepare for life outside of hockey" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 8/21).

HALL PASS: The Sports Broadcasting HOF announced eight members that will be included in its '15 class: MARV ALBERT, FRED ALDOUS, DICK BUTTON, SANDY GROSSMAN, MICHAEL PEARL, JERRY STEINBERG, PAT SULLIVAN and TED TURNER. The inductees were voted into the HOF by a panel of nearly 100 sports broadcasting industry leaders (Sports Broadcasting HOF). 

NAMES: A jury on Thursday found Ravens Dir of Security DARREN SANDERS "not guilty of charges that he groped a stadium worker after a game." Sanders was "acquitted of second-degree assault and a fourth-degree sex offense stemming from accusations that he inappropriately touched a woman who works for a cleaning crew contracted with M&T Bank Stadium after a game in December" (ESPN.com, 8/20)....USWNT F CARLI LLOYD has a book deal with Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, which announced that it will release her memoir in fall '16 (Houghton Mifflin)....USWNT MFs KELLEY O'HARA and LAUREN HOLIDAY visited Under Armour HQ on Thursday to talk with UA officials "about their plans for the future" (BALTIMORESUN.com, 8/20)....A lawyer for the family of late NHLer DEREK BOOGAARD "is battling to delay a court ruling on dismissing their wrongful-death lawsuit against the NHL until he has a chance to introduce new evidence that he says will further prove that the league is responsible for Boogaard's death" (TSN.ca, 8/19)....Kansas State Univ. will name its new football locker room after Packers WR and KSU alum JORDY NELSON, who "pledged a financial gift" to the school. The amount of the gift "is undisclosed." The new Nelson Family Locker Room will "reside in K-State's Vanier Football Complex" (ESPN.com, 8/20)....Former NFLer LADAINIAN TOMLINSON "will be honored" at TCU's '15 Lifetime Achievement Award Gala on Nov. 12 (STAR-TELEGRAM.com, 8/20).
