A $255.8M government claim on the estate of late Twins Owner CARL POHLAD has been "quietly settled for a fraction of the initial amount" the IRS demanded. Court documents filed earlier this summer show that the Pohlad family "resolved the case" for $36M, including a penalty of $1.8M and interest of $5.3M. The settlement "appears to validate the family’s contention for the past two years that the IRS greatly overvalued Carl Pohlad’s interest" in the Twins. Before his death in '09, he had "transferred the bulk of ownership to his three sons" (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 8/20).
