NBA Kings' Planned Hotel, Condo Tower Won't Be Ready In Time For '16 Arena Opening

The NBA Kings said that the team's planned 16-story hotel and condominium tower "won’t make it" in time for the opening of the team's downtown arena prior to the '16-17 NBA season, according to Dale Kasler of the SACRAMENTO BEE. The Kings "wanted to open their hotel and condominium tower at Downtown Plaza in time for the opening of their new arena." But they said that the tower, to be built "immediately north of the arena, will open" sometime in early '17. The team also disclosed a "slight tweaking of the tower’s features." The Kings now plan to "build up to 50 condominium units; before, they were planning 69." The structure also "will include office and retail space, and the Kings expect to make announcements on tenants this fall." The Kings said that the tower "will be completed in time to host visitors for the opening rounds" of the '17 NCAA men's basketball tournament. The hotel "will be run" by S.F.-based operator Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants (SACRAMENTO BEE, 8/18).
