Yale Bowl Set For Updates After '15 Football Season, Creating Multiuse Functionality

The Yale Bowl is “set to undergo a number of cosmetic changes intended to turn the football stadium into more of a multiuse facility for the campus,” according to John Altavilla of the HARTFORD COURANT. At the conclusion of the ‘15 football season, Yale's “plan is for its grass field to be replaced with an artificial surface.” Yale and Brown are “the only Ivy League programs with natural grass fields.” A portable bubble roof estimated at 65 feet tall "will also be installed along with low-level lighting.” The roof “would not be up for football games, but would be installed after the season and removed before the season.” This will “help turn the historic facility into a place Yale's football team, as well its lacrosse and soccer teams, can practice.” In the case of lacrosse and soccer, it “could provide another venue to play games.” The university also “plans to use it for intramurals and non-athletic functions, parties and fundraisers.” One temporary change “will be made in time” for the Harvard game Nov. 21, as NBC Sports has requested a 2:30pm ET kickoff. In an effort to “prevent against the on-set of darkness, banks of lights will be mounted at some point before the game.” The stadium’s “last major renovation was nearly a decade ago when its 30 entrance portals and retaining walls and interior structure were enhanced” (HARTFORD COURANT, 8/19).
